Rapid Recovery in Challenging Conditions

AquaEye brought closure in minutes after traditional search wasted hours

An adult male fell into the water at a marina on Lake Ray Hubbard, near Dallas, Texas. Despite an immediate response, rescuers were unable to locate the victim during the initial rescue window. The operation transitioned into a multi-agency recovery effort involving dive teams, fire and police boats equipped with side-scan sonar, and local search and rescue units.

Search conditions were extremely challenging: confined spaces between docks, zero-visibility black water, and hazardous underwater debris significantly limited diver access and sonar effectiveness.

“We used AquaEye in a recovery situation where we were able to help bring closure to a family in just minutes. In our opinion, AquaEye will not only help many families, but also protect those who risk their lives to bring our loved ones home.”

Deployment of AquaEye

After several hours without success, the North Dallas Public Safety (NDPA) team—recently trained with AquaEye—was called to assist. Given the tight search area and poor visibility, AquaEye proved to be the ideal tool for the job. Within five minutes of deployment, the NDPA team identified the target beneath the dock. They directed dive personnel to the exact location, enabling a safe and swift recovery.

Outcome

The use of AquaEye brought closure to the family within minutes, significantly reducing risk to divers and shortening the duration of the search.

AquaEye Testimonial: “We have to give the person the best chance at living.”

Ocean City, MD - Ocean City Fire Department Battalion Chief David Peterson:
"I was definitely skeptical at first, but Copper Collar came out to do a demo and within the first five minutes I thought 'this is amazing, let's buy one.' We've shown it to lots of our boat operators and rescue swimmers, everyone was really impressed.
We use it both on the open ocean side, and the calm side of our island. AquaEye is very beneficial for searching the surf, scanning back towards shore.
AquaEye absolutely increases team safety. We can search a huge area instead of..."
