Swift Detection in a Race Against Time

Traditional methods consumed valuable time, AquaEye located the victim within minutes

A distress call came in from Bob Wentz Park at Lake Travis: a swimmer had gone under and failed to resurface. Eyewitnesses pointed to a specific area, but with no visual contact, the clock was ticking.

The local first response team arrived within minutes and initiated a traditional grid search pattern across the swim zone. After approximately 15 minutes with no results, a mutual aid team arrived on scene—equipped with AquaEye.

Location

Lake Travis, Texas

Conditions

Open Water – Low Visibility

AquaEye Deployment

With visibility low and time critical, the team deployed AquaEye in long-range scanning mode. In less than one minute, AquaEye identified a target approximately 40 meters from the shoreline.

Target Pinpointed and Rescue Launched

Guided by AquaEye’s location data, rescue swimmers immediately moved toward the identified target. On their second dive, swimmers located the individual submerged in a pike position at a depth of 12 feet. Within five minutes of AquaEye’s deployment, the victim was brought to the surface and CPR was initiated by paramedics on shore.

Outcome

Despite the team’s rapid and coordinated response, the individual later succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

This operation demonstrates the critical role AquaEye can play in time-sensitive water rescues. While traditional methods consumed valuable time, AquaEye located the victim within minutes.

"I was definitely skeptical at first, but Copper Collar came out to do a demo and within the first five minutes I thought 'this is amazing, let's buy one.' We've shown it to lots of our boat operators and rescue swimmers, everyone was really impressed.
We use it both on the open ocean side, and the calm side of our island. AquaEye is very beneficial for searching the surf, scanning back towards shore.
